- The Student Theater of the Latvia University of Agriculture (Jelgava Student Theater) is one of the four theaters of Latvian universities.

The
The creative activity of student theater is characterized by two very different directions of theatrical art - improvisation and productions.
"Meet your good mood" - monthly theater sports and long form improvisation evenings, where student theater actors and spectators can compete on the same stage with Latvian improvisation masters ("Insanity", RIT, "Elevator", ImproZoo, etc.). Joy reigns in the annual theater sports tournaments of Latvian universities. Here you can not only enjoy the spirit of improvisation and theater sports, but also learn it yourself.

The spark of the actor sparkles and his unconscious talents in different expressions of the theatrical language. With M. Ozolina's short story “Helmut and Hellija” Latvia is represented at the NEATA (Nordic Amateur Theater Association) short story festival “Short play festival 2016” in the Faroe Islands, A. The
The
Jelgava Student Theater three times as "Phoenix originated from the ashes".
The first home is Valdeka Castle (since 1968), now the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Planning, where the audience, which was once a theater rehearsal and performance room, was given the name “Theater Audience”.
In 1991, the theater actors designed and built a unique wooden amphitheater with 150 seats, a make-up shop, an underground stage, and a light ceiling in the adjacent LLU Student Recreation Hall, which had to be demolished in 1999 due to a change of ownership .
In 2000, the stage boards were moved to the practical faculty laboratory room of the Technical Faculty on J.Čakstes boulevard 5a, where the actors rebuild the stage. And since 2011 we also have a hand-built, equipped gym, costume and decoration warehouse and the Historical Art Space - Melpomene living room, where both spectators before the performances and city guests can stay in touch with the show details (in cooperation with the TORNIS Regional Tourism Agency - THE BUTTERFLY KINGDOM ")
The
ROOTS
In 1946, PĒTERIS LŪCIS created a drama group at the Latvian Academy of Agriculture. Performances have been created by famous Latvian theater actors and directors - Kārlis Pamše, Vera Singajevska, Miervaldis Ozoliņš, Vilis Ķimelis, Jānis Lūsēns, Guntis Krūmiņš, Lūcija Ņefedova.
In 1968, under the direction of RUTA KALASS, the drama ensemble became the Academy's Drama Studio - ADS, where students were trained in the art of oratorio, plastics, and directing (direction of the Drama Team Faculty of the Academy of Agriculture).
The
PROFESSIONALISM
In 1984, ASTRA KACENA, a graduate of LVK (Latvian State Conservatory), was invited to work as a director. The drama studio becomes the LLA Student Theater (since 1991 - LLU Student Theater). A theater space is created - the "black box". In creating the performances, the director attracts professional scenographers, musicians, choreographers, movement and rhythm artists, consultants. The search for new theatrical forms begins - 7-14 day rides in horse-drawn carriages around the regions of Latvia, playing 2 performances a day (excerpts from R. Blaumanis' plays), Dance performance E. Jonesko's "Bassoon Singer" is played for 14 days in a row at the Edinburgh Art Festival Fringe , after returning from the 4th International Impro Festival in Amsterdam, initiates and develops THEATER SPORTS and improvisational theater movement in Latvia.
The
DIRECTION
To be a part of Latvia University of Agriculture, Jelgava, Latvian CULTURE and show it to the world. LLU Student Theater is an indispensable participant in the traditional events of the University - Christmas ball in the castle, Student Day events and the Big Spring Concerts , the annual Museum Night , Jelgava City Festival.
In 2015, the Latvian University Theater Festival “TWO MAY EVENINGS” took place, but already in 2017 we organized the First International University Theater Festival “Two May Evenings” …
